How do you feel about the Christmas decorations / stuff today being put up in stores WAY too early?

Posted by admin on Oct 31, 2009 under christmas holiday decoration

I’ve just gone for a walk around my local mall and they’ve already strung up all the Christmas decorations and holiday items… in the middle of September! =O

Coincidentally, and almost ironically, I saw it featured in the 6 o’clock news later that night: "It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… in September." It seems that MOST retail outlets and malls are taking advantage of this "Holiday Spending" bonanza… =(

They said it was to augment and help increase the profit for the annual Christmas / Holiday sales.

Personally, I’d be pissed when they do these things so early that it seems ludicrous and out of place… also, if they ever skip Halloween, I would go nuts (Halloween is one of my favourite holidays = candy)!

What’s your opinion on this? Would you do all your holiday shopping now? Does it really save you the money (like they said on the news)?

For all we know… next thing we might see is Christmas in July! =D

It’s just ridiculous to see that stuff up before Thanksgiving. It’s also disrespectful to Halloween, like they are skipping over one holiday to focus on a more profitable one! That being said, there have been a lot of new reports lately that say retailers are expecting poor Christmas earnings this year due to the economy. This is particularly bad news for certain industries (toys, jewelry) who make most of their yearly earnings in the last part of the year. It’s possible that with the economy in mind, retailers will be trying to make Christmas as early as possible as to lengthen the buying season to compensate for the low earnings that are being predicted.

what do you do to the electrical cords for christmas decorations so your house fuse doesn’t blow when wet?

Posted by admin on Oct 30, 2009 under christmas holiday decoration

Every Christmas when I put on holiday decorations, if it rains or heavy snow I constantly blow the house fuse. What do you do so this doesn’t happen?
They are not in puddles! and I have alot of them plugged into a standing timer with 6 plugs and the plugs are heavy duty and top door doesn’t close. What then? lights go on with timer except when it rains or snows heavy

Put all your plug in connections in a zip lock bag. zip it closed as far as it will go then fold over around cords and tap with black electrical tape a few times around. Twist tie the bag/cords to a small stake or decoration so the zip opening is pointed to ground.
Any kind of old stake such as tomato stack (paint black or dark green)
is good. You can even buy green extension cords which are almost invisible. Where light sets plug in end to end, just wrap with electrical tape over joint and each way about 1". Hang light strands so the light sockets are pointed down so water cannot collect in the sockets.

Baskets for All Kinds of Holiday Giving

Posted by admin on Oct 23, 2009 under christmas holiday gift

You don’t have to limit gift food baskets for christmas holiday giving. Gift food baskets make great gifts because nearly everyone appreciates food and there are so many different baskets available. Here are some ideas to help you find the perfect basket to fit the holiday.

Since Christmas is the most popular time to give gift food baskets, it is fairly easy to find one online that will fit your needs. There are baskets for every holiday and occasion from New Year’s to Kwanzaa and everything in between.

It is not uncommon to find kosher Jewish gift food baskets online to give for Hanukkah, a special Shabbat, Purim, Passover, and other Jewish holidays.

When Easter rolls around, baskets are a common sight-but they are generally for children. Give the adults their own baskets with gourmet chocolates, some wine, and fresh flowers or bulbs in a pot.

You may not think you need any more candy at Halloween, so send a basket with flashlights or glow sticks, pumpkin carving tools and maybe some popcorn or pumpkin seeds.

Be creative and give gifts for every holiday.

Should you decorate your house for Christmas if you will be selling it during the holiday season?

Posted by admin on Oct 23, 2009 under christmas holiday decoration

We are going to put our house on the market Mid November. Should we put a few Christmas decorations out? (Very sparingly) or should we keep our fall decor out (very sparing)? We have already "de-cluttered" and "staged" and it looks like pictures from a magazine. Very nice, but what’s your opinion on holiday decor?

Ask yourself: When does a house look most like a home- most inviting?

When it is holiday time!

I have builders that decorate their spec homes for Christmas. But don’t crowd up the place.

Christmas Lights Gone Wild

Posted by admin on Oct 19, 2009 under christmas holiday

Wow, this thing has really gone crazy with the viewers. Let me first start by saying that this is not my house. Regardless of what any of the comments read, this house really does exist, I have seen it with my own eyes and nothing you see in the video is trickery, it’s all real.
This display was the work of Carson Williams, a Mason, Ohio, electrical engineer who spent about three hours sequencing the 88 Light-O-Rama channels that controlled the 16,000 Christmas lights in his annual holiday lighting spectacular (from Christmas 2004). His 2005 display includes over 25,000 lights that he spent nearly two months and $10,000 to hook up. So that the Williams’ neighbors aren’t disturbed by constant noise, viewers driving by the house are informed by signs to tune in to a signal broadcast over a low-power FM radio station to hear the musical accompaniment.

The rough quality of the video has led some viewers to believe it was put together in stop-action form from still photographs, but that is an artifact of the high compression used in the clip circulated via e-mail. Mr. Williams has posted instructions for recreating his “Wizard in Winter” sequencing, and another of his choreographed Christmas light music shows can be viewed here.

Carson’s Christmas display proved so popular that it was featured in a Miller Lite beer commercial in December 2005.

which days in christmas holiday are safe for travelling on the roads?

Posted by admin on Oct 13, 2009 under christmas holiday

do you agree that the heaviest holiday travel traffics occur closely before or after Christmas Eve?

1.Which days should we choose to travel on roads between the 22nd to othe 26th?

2. which days might be the safest for travelling around New year’s eve

I will take weather forest cast into consideration too.

also, we travel within the Midwest

Realistically, it doesn’t matter much. The roads may be more crowded on the 22nd and the 26th, but you probably won’t notice much of a difference. Just keep an eye on the forecast.

On Dec. 31, we call it "amateur night" because some people will be out who don’t know how to have fun. So be a little careful.

How long does Disney World leave up Christmas decorations?

Posted by admin on Oct 12, 2009 under christmas holiday decoration

Because of family obligations we won’t be arriving to Walt Disney World in Orlando until January 2nd 2009
Will it still look like the christmas holiday season?

I usually go the second week of January and not all of the decorations are still up.I have never seen the castle lights but have seen the big Christmas tree at the entrance to each park.

Why do people make big issues about the Christmas holiday?

Posted by admin on Oct 7, 2009 under christmas holiday

some school is trying to ban the holiday, people debate the name of the holiday, trying to remove christmas, hannickah, and halloween from schools.
People debating about religion and holidays in the US.
And the jello debate with religions in the US
Are we basically trying to come up with issues and dilemmas each year?
It’s making the holidays seem less enjoyable.

I agree completely!!!
Let the kids in schools have Halloween parties, Chanukah Parties, and Christmas parties.
People say that Christmas parties are trying to force christian beliefs onto kids, however, Santa and Christmas trees and twinkle lights are secular.
It’s ridiculous.
